Przekrój magazine’s iconic crosswords can be characterized as challenging, original and funny. They are based on wordplay, double meanings, and abstract associations.
When Poland was under Communist rule, our crosswords were extremely popular. Sometimes whole families would get together to figure out the answers—it was simply impossible to succeed alone. Poles used to say that if you managed to solve at least five crosswords on your own, then you were a real intellectual. One of our puzzles was even featured in Andrzej Wajda’s legendary 1960’s movie Niewinni Czarodzieje (Innocent Sorcerers).
Since 2018, the PRZEKRÓJ Foundation has been organizing crossword tournaments together with independent bookstores around the country. You can test your knowledge and sense of humor by taking part in the tournament alone, or together with a team. During the pandemic, we even organized an online competition. How did the participants do? Well, the winner managed to solve all the clues in ten minutes, a record.
Our crosswords are available interactively online, but unfortunately, only in Polish for now. If you are lucky to be fluent in this language, feel free to challenge yourself at przekroj.org.
