The PRZEKRÓJ Foundation, together with EC1 Łódź, the International Festival of Comics and Games in Łódź, and the Museum of Caricature in Warsaw organize a year-long competition for comic strips. The Zbigniew Lengren competition for the statuette of Professor Filutek aims to commemorate Professor Filutek and his creator, and also to encourage artists to create comic strips.
The comic strip is one of the most graceful forms of comics. A few frames containing a joke or a story are a nice challenge for the imagination and skills of the comic strip creator. The most famous Polish character in comic strips is Professor Filutek—a cheerful old man in a bowler hat with an umbrella and his dog, Filusia. He is an old-fashioned dandy wandering about and looking at the world. The first comic strip about his adventures appeared in the 147th issue of Przekrój in February 1948. Professor Filutek was created by Zbigniew Lengren, a long-time Przekrój cartoonist, caricaturist and satirist.
We invite both established artists and amateur artists to take part in the competition. In each edition we propose a different theme for the works. The winner is announced during the International Festival of Comics and Games in Łódź.
