There is a cellar in the center of Warsaw, and in this cellar is the best improv theater in the city, or—as some people say—in the whole world! The Warsaw Comedy Club, established in 2014, often hosts authors of the Przekrój quarterly on its stage, and our articles serve as an inspiration to the live improvised comedy scenes.
At the PRZEKRÓJ Foundation, we laud wit, imagination, and tender absurdity. We believe that the art of laughter is a great help in life! We spread this idea not only in our articles published on Przekroj.org, but also during numerous events, such as the regular meetings with our readers at the Comedy Club.
Many notable figures have graced our friendly stage: Marek Raczkowski, the lead cartoonist of Przekrój, has presented his drawings and read his favorite excerpts from the quarterly, as well as Marcin Orliński, our author and editor of many years’ standing. He also happens to be a renowned poet and literary critic. In 2022, we celebrated the 77th anniversary of the Przekrój quarterly in the Comedy Club. The magazine was founded at the end of World War II, in April 1945.
The Comedy Club itself is made up of acclaimed improv performers including Kinga Kosik-Burzyńska, Michał Sufin, Bartosz Młynarski, Karolina Norkiewicz, Marta Podobas, Dorota Pawiłowska and Weronika Nockowska, among others. In many of their performances, the artists comment on pressing social issues in Poland, such as women’s rights or deforestation. We believe it is important to improve the world through art and we are happy to recommend the performances at the Comedy Club to our readers. Check the full schedule at Komediowy.pl.
